Bright Futures Teen Mother Program

Parenting is always a challenge.  For a teenager, raising a child can be overwhelming.  For a teenager in the foster care system, caring for a baby can seem impossible.  Our Bright Futures Program for teen mothers is dedicated to giving young mothers who are wards of the District of Columbia the guidance and support they need to be independent, capable adults and mothers.

At Bright Futures, up to 14 young women live in a nurturing environment caring for their children while working with a staff of supportive professionals 24 hours a day to gain the vital skills needed to raise a family. Staff members serve as mentors and links to quality daycare providers, educational opportunities, vocational and lifestyle training, health care and housing information.

All Bright Futures residents are enrolled in high school or vocational training as well as parenting classes and must be at least 16 years of age. Participants graduate from the program at the age of 21 with the knowledge and skills they need to make good choices and be healthy adults.  Former residents remain connected to Bright Futures through the relationships forged with their on-site mentors.  Clients incur no cost to enroll and should contact our intake coordinator for more information (202) 289-1510.
